E.L. Kurtz has been playing music as long as he can remember.
His interest in early American history - as evidenced by his knowledge and
participation in revolutionary war re-enactments - and his love of music have
allowed E.L. to become one of the premier performers of 18th century music around
the country.
After reliving many great battle scenes and performing his music at countless shows
over the years, E.L. and his good friend and fellow re-enactor Robert Murphy began to
formulate the beginnings of a concept album based on a 1700's-era soldier's life.
Through detailed research and understanding of the period, Robert and E.L. crafted
an absorbing story of love, life and the fight for America's freedom.
Having made the decision to put their story to music in hopes of sharing their passion
for the period, Robert and E.L. contacted Jeff Wheaton at Blue Stream Records about
recording and producing their CD.
With careful selection of authentic
songs from the
18th-century, artfully blended
with traditional instruments and E.L.'s mesmerizing
voice, the team
created a beautiful and
poignant musical
tapestry that transports the listener back 250 years and puts
them right in the middle of 1700s America.
To provide even more authenticity to his music, E.L. went in search of a traditional lute. Triumphantly
he was able to purchase an 1850's lute from Germany. Amazingly, the lute was located in the same German town where
E.L.'s ancestors originated!
The result of their passionate work, "A Soldier's Journey", is now available online, at E.L. Kurtz
performances, and at historic locations around the country.
E.L. Kurtz regularly appears around the United States at historic
events, paying his personal tribute to America's history through music and song. Between appearances
he continues recording sessions for his next album. Be sure
to catch one of his shows!
